DARO: The Sejingkat Bridge in Kuching will serve as a direct link to Tanjung Embang, which has been identified as the site for the proposed new Kuching International Airport.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said once the bridge is completed, it will improve accessibility to the area.

“In Tanjung Embang, we will have our airport including our own airline, named AirBorneo.

“Now, we have our own airline, bridges, and we are going to build a new airport. With this, our economy will continue to grow,” he said.

He said this when officiating at the launching ceremony of the Muara Lassa Bridge here today (Feb 22).

Abang Johari stressed that all these developmens are part of the economic activities that will further stimulate growth and provide income to the people.

In November last year, Abang Johari said the new road through Kampung Beliong, connected via the Sejingkat Bridge, would reduce travel time to Petra Jaya to just 20 minutes.

He said the entire area would be interconnected as developments are extended from Beliong to Tanjung Embang.

Meanwhile, the construction of the RM365 million Sejingkat Bridge crossing the Sarawak River is currently underway and is expected to be completed in December this year.
