KUCHING: A teenager was among 10 riders arrested for allegedly riding their motorcycles in a dangerous manner during an operation codenamed ‘Ops Samseng Jalanan’ recently.
In addition, a total of 100 modified motorcycles were confiscated in the operation conducted by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division from 4 pm on Aug 24 until 4 am the next day at Masja area.
Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the operation was aimed at curbing illegal street activities and ensuring road users comply with traffic laws.
“Ten men, aged between 14 and 23, were arrested under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.
“Also, a total of 100 motorcycles were seized under Section 60 of the same Act for having illegal modifications and for further inspection,” he said.
The 12-hour operation also saw 544 summonses issued for various traffic offences after police have inspected 343 individuals and 325 motorcycles.
Alexson said similar operations would continue from time to time and urged road users to always drive responsibly and avoid illegal street activities or vehicle modifications.
“Negligent drivers or riders not only endanger themselves but also other road users,” he said.
