MIRI: Police in Miri have seized 10 motorcycles and issued 30 summonses in a crackdown on illegal street racing and traffic violations following public complaints over noise and dangerous riding.
The operation, conducted by the district’s Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division, ran from 11pm on Apr 4 until 3.30am the following morning, targeting key routes including Jalan Piasau, Jalan Miri Bypass, Jalan Marina, Jalan Tanjung Lobang and Jalan Bekenu.
Miri district police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said 35 individuals, including five women, were stopped and inspected along with 30 motorcycles.
Police detected a range of offences, including riding without a valid licence, illegal vehicle modifications and the use of excessively noisy exhaust systems.
Several motorcycles were also found without registration plates or fitted with non-compliant number plates.
Ten motorcycles were seized under Section 60 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for further action.
Mohd Farhan said police would take a zero-tolerance approach towards street racing and other dangerous behaviour on public roads.
“These activities endanger not only those involved but also other road users,” he said.
Police said enforcement operations would be intensified and warned that offenders risk vehicle seizure and legal action.
