MIRI: Police seized 10 motorcycles and issued 46 summonses in a targeted crackdown on illegal street racing late Saturday night.
The coordinated operation, carried out by the Miri District Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division, ran from 11:00 pm on November 8 until 4:00 am the following morning.
Patrol teams swept through hotspots including the city centre, Piasau and the Miri Bypass, areas long associated with illegal late-night gatherings of reckless riders.
Twenty-three individuals, among them 20 men and three women, were stopped and checked along with 21 motorcycles.
Officers uncovered a catalogue of offences, ranging from expired licences and riding without a licence to extensive illegal modifications, altered exhausts, missing mirrors, fancy or missing plates, worn tyres and defective braking systems.
Ten motorcycles were confiscated under Section 64 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for further technical inspection due to their condition and modifications.
Police said the operation forms part of a sustained enforcement drive to deter illegal racing and irresponsible riding behaviour that poses serious risk to public safety.
Riders have been warned to stop treating public roads as racing circuits and to avoid modifications that compromise vehicle integrity.
The public is reminded to ride responsibly, avoid causing noise disturbance, and refrain from gathering in ways that obstruct traffic flow.
Police emphasised that recklessness on the road is not only dangerous to the rider but endangers everyone else sharing the road.
Enforcement will continue, police said, and those who persist in defying traffic laws should expect firm action.
