KUCHING: Ten para-athletes from Sarawak have earned selection to represent Malaysia at the ASEAN Para Games in Thailand after meeting the qualifying standards for the biennial Games.

Sarawak para-athletics team manager, Siti Nurbaya Ramin, described the selection as a significant recognition of the state’s progress in para-sports development.

She said the athletes would be carrying not only Sarawak’s hopes but also the nation’s expectations, with the primary focus on achieving personal best performances as part of their preparation for higher-level competitions.

“This opportunity reflects the steady development of para-athletics in Sarawak. Our athletes are concentrating on producing their best performances as a foundation for future international events,” she told TVS when contacted today.

The selected athletes represent a range of classifications, namely Colorine Sijang (F41), Noshazwani Marissa Marzuki (F37), Catalina Sunti David Diok (F11), Siti Zubaidah Puini (F12), Tomson Lim Kok Hong (F37), Nur Farhani Kudus (T47), Muhammad Asyraaf Razali (Intellectual), Chong Cheng Tat (F34), Leeyendy Jisen Abdullah (F11) and Filemon Lirong Dionisus (T11).

Commenting on medal prospects, Siti Nurbaya said the team is optimistic of securing at least three silver and six bronze medals, while not ruling out the possibility of winning gold.
