KUCHING: Ten-year-old Larissa Yii stole the show at the 5th Sarawak Sprint Swimming Championship, splashing her way to 15 gold medals, three bronze and seven record-breaking feats.

Representing Power Aquatic Swimming Club (PASC), Larissa dominated the freestyle, backstroke, butterfly and medley events at the meet held here from Aug 15 to 17.

Her heroics made her the key contributor to her club’s success while also marking her out as one of Sarawak’s brightest young swimming talents.

The championship drew 504 swimmers from Taiwan, Indonesia, Brunei, Sabah and Peninsular Malaysia — the largest entry since its inception — boosting its reputation as a regional-level competition.

Larissa’s rise has been guided by her coaches, Federick Hermoso and Voon Yong Hui, whose mentorship has sharpened her talent and discipline in the pool. – TVS
