LIMBANG: A joint operation held by enforcement personnel of the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK) and a team oif the Marine Police Fifth Region of Sarawak succeeded in catching 100 cases of smuggling with a total worth of RM3 million.
According to the Deputy Director-General of KPDNKK Malaysia Datuk Iskandar Halim Sulaiman, the cases were those recorded within the last three years.
The controlled item that is most popular among smugglers is the liquified petroleum gas (LPG) despite its declining rate.
This is due to the various ‘jalan tikus’ (escape routes) that have been identified by the enforcement personnel. Efforts are being doubled in tackling the smuggling act.
These ‘jalan tikus’ are found all over the the borders stretching from Kuching until the borders at Ba’ Kelalan in Lawas.
Iskandar made the comment in a press conference after leading the joint operation that involved KPDNKK and the Region Five Marine Police (PPM) Sarawak here yesterday. Also present wa the PPM Sarawak Region Five Commander ACP Salehuddin Mat Zaman and delegates.
At the same he also said their team would continually cooperate with the two enforcement agencies in their war against smuggling by sea or land.
On the rise of petrol prices, he said such matter was due to the international oil prices.
Hithertoo, the issue of rising prices of fuel has caused disatisfaction among the people all over the country.
This is because the rising prices of petrol leads to increase in the prices of other goods thereby causing a higher cost of living for all.
