
SIBU: About 1,000 members of the Muslim community attended the “Majlis Doa Akhir 1439 Hijrah dan Awal Tahun 1440 Hijrah” on Monday evening, that was held in conjunction with the State-level Maal Hijrah celebration 2018.
The ceremony was attended by Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife Toh Puan Ragad Kurdi Taib, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Openg and his wife Datin Patinggi Dato Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang, and State Legislative Assembly speaker Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasar. Also present were Assistant Minister of Education and Technological Research Dr Annuar Rapaee; Assistant Minister of Utilities (Water Supply), Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi; Member of Parliament for Tanjung Manis Yusuf Wahab; Daro Assemblyman Safiee Ahmad; Sarawak Islamic Council president Datu Misnu Taha and chairman of An-Nur Mosque management committee Sibu, Latiff Kupon. Maal Hijrah celebration was organised by Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS), Sarawak Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) and Sibu Resident’s Office.
The programme started at 6pm with prayer reading of “Akhir Tahun 1439 Hijrah” and followed with Azan prayer and later, Maghrib prayer. After Maghrib prayer, the programmed continued with Maal Hijrah talk delivered by Mufti Besar Negeri Sarawak Datu Kipli Yasin. Among other programmes after “solat isyak” were Zikir Marhaban, prayer reading of “Awal Tahun 1439 Hijrah” and dinner.
