KUCHING: The D’Drift 2026 team will deliver 1,000 books to Kampung Rajang in Belawai as part of the fifth edition of its ‘Bless Rural Children with Your Books’ initiative.

The books, that were handed over today in conjunction with the ‘D’Drift 2026: Tracing Stories Along the Coastal Road’ programme organised by a local media outlet, DayakDaily, aims to enhance the village library and promote reading among rural children.

BESarawak acting chief executive officer, Jason Tan, said the initiative goes beyond exploring Sarawak’s stories and traditions, empowering young readers and creating opportunities for communities to benefit directly.

“Every year, D’Drift goes beyond exploring Sarawak’s stories and traditions, supporting our ‘Books Build Legacy’ to empower young readers and reach children who need it most. Each D’Drift journey is also a chance to give back to the community,” he said.

The programme is conducted in collaboration with Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak) and supported by the Kuching Freelance Journalist Association (PEWARTA), reflecting a shared commitment to education, literacy and community engagement in rural areas.

Since its launch in 2022, the initiative has delivered thousands of books and soft toys to communities across Sarawak, including Penan children at SK Lusong Laku, the Orang Ulu community in Ulu Belaga, and the Reading Corner at Long Latei Penan Service Centre in Ulu Baram.

Last year, over 1,000 books and 10 large bags of soft toys were delivered to Tarat under the expanded ‘Bless Rural Children with Books and Soft Toys’ initiative.

By combining travel, storytelling and community outreach, D’Drift continues to reflect DayakDaily’s commitment to cultural preservation, education and social responsibility, ensuring that each journey inspires lifelong learning in rural communities.
