KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will attend the Malaysian Journalists’ Night (MWM) 2026 and the MPI-PETRONAS Malaysian Journalism Awards 2025 on July 17.

The prestigious event, organised by the Malaysian Press Institute (MPI), is expected to gather approximately 1,000 media practitioners, editors, publishers, government representatives, corporate leaders and strategic industry partners here.

Chief Executive Officer of MPI, Dr Ainol Amriz Ismail, said in a press statement on Tuesday that the Prime Minister’s attendance reflected the government’s appreciation for the media’s vital role.

“This occasion symbolises recognition for journalists’ professionalism, courage and integrity in delivering ethical, factual reporting despite rapid changes driven by digital platforms, social media and artificial intelligence,” he said.

Carrying the theme ‘Newsroom’, MWM 2026 highlights news reporting as the foundation of journalism, emphasising accuracy, verification and ethical publishing amid increasingly complex technological developments and evolving audience expectations.

The evening’s highlight will be the presentation of the MPI-PETRONAS Malaysian Journalism Awards 2025, recognising outstanding journalistic works across 21 categories covering print, broadcasting, radio, multimedia, photography, documentaries and ESG reporting.

Anwar is also scheduled to present the prestigious Kajai Award, regarded as the nation’s highest journalism honour, celebrating journalists whose work demonstrates exceptional excellence, influence and public impact.

The MPI-PETRONAS Malaysian Journalism Awards 2025 receives RM450,000 in sponsorship from PETRONAS, reflecting the corporation’s continued commitment towards strengthening Malaysia’s journalism ecosystem and promoting quality media development nationwide.

During the event, the Prime Minister will also launch ‘Di Sebalik Takbir Kerjaya Wartawan’, an MPI publication documenting the professional journeys and experiences of 23 veteran media practitioners from various organisations.
