KUCHING: The Pan Pacific and Southeast Asia Women’s Association (PPSEAWA) Sarawak Chapter will be organising the Women Empowerment Run 2026 for the first time at the MBKS building route on Jan 18, 2026.
Chairperson Datuk Dr Munirah Mohd Hassan said the run will feature two categories – 3KM and 5KM, targeting 1,000 participants from both local and out-of-state runners.
She said the event, which will mark the opening highlight of 2026, is open to all individuals regardless of gender or age group.
“We are targeting over 1,000 participants and warmly welcome support from ministries, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and corporate bodies not only through sponsorship but also through active participation.”
Munirah said this in her speech during a press conference held at Kingwood Hotel on Monday (Oct 20).
“The more participants, the better, as our main objective is to raise awareness about PPSEAWA, an international organisation that advocates for women’s welfare. We also encourage men to join and show their support for women’s empowerment in Malaysia.”
She further mentioned that registration is still open, with around 500 participants from PPSEAWA Kuala Lumpur, PPSEAWA Sarawak, and local communities having confirmed their participation so far.
“So far, we’ve recorded about 500 registrations, which is a positive indicator of public interest. Participants from PPSEAWA headquarters in Kuala Lumpur will also be joining us, and we have extended invitations to PPSEAWA members from other countries.
“For those who can’t run, walking is perfectly fine,” she added.
The event will also feature health and fitness activities such as aerobics and zumba sessions, along with medals and pink T-shirts symbolising women’s empowerment for all registered participants.
