KAPIT: A large-scale immigration raid ended with 101 foreigners in custody as enforcement teams swooped in during a coordinated crackdown on suspected immigration offenders on Saturday (Nov 8).

The operation, codenamed ‘Ops Sapu’, was launched by the Sarawak Immigration Department between 9.30 am and 3.45 pm, targeting areas believed to be hotspots for undocumented migrants.

Led by 10 officers from the department’s Special Task Force with support from Sibu and Kapit enforcement divisions, the team inspected a total of 189 foreigners — 188 men and one woman — for their documentations.

Out of those screened, 101 individuals (100 men and a woman) were arrested for various offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63.

Among them were those overstaying and failing to present valid travel documents as required under Sections 6(1)(c) and 15(1)(c) of the same Act.

The department said the operation reflects their continued focus on tightening border control and safeguarding local communities from the influx of illegal migrants, particularly in Sarawak’s remote interior regions.
