KUCHING: A total of 101 Form Six students from schools around Kuching and Bau participated in the Empowering Future Entrepreneurs workshop held today (April 12) at the Swinburne University of Technology.
Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Francis Harden Hollis who officiated at the workshop, encouraged the students to embrace the entrepreneurial mindset and seize the opportunity to explore the world of innovation and business.
“This workshop is not just another event—it is a platform that ignites ideas, nurtures dreams, and introduces you to the exciting world of entrepreneurship,” he said.
Harden described the workshop as a meaningful experience for students transitioning from secondary school to higher education institutions, exposing them to a different and inspiring learning environment.
“When you enter a university, it’s a totally different experience. You are stepping into a space where ideas are born, problems are solved, and futures are shaped,” he added.
He noted that the younger generation plays a crucial role in driving Sarawak towards becoming a high-income and developed state under the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
“Human capital development is key. We need young minds like yours—future founders, innovators, and leaders—to power the industries of tomorrow, create jobs, and contribute to the economic growth of Sarawak,” he said.
Harden also advised the students to take their education seriously, particularly in STEM subjects, and to explore scholarship and pathway opportunities into institutions such as Swinburne University of Technology.
“Entrepreneurship is more than starting a business. It is about seeing opportunities where others see obstacles, and solving problems that matter. I hope today inspires you to work harder towards your own success story,” he added.
