SIBU: Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee has urged the remaining 125 homeowners in Rejang Park here who have yet to register for repair works’ compensation to do so as soon as possible at his Pelawan service centre.

The final registration deadline is July 4 (next Friday).

Through Tiang’s efforts, according to a statement from the service centre on Thursday, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun  Openg made a commitment during the 2018 general election campaign to allocate RM3 million for the central sewerage system project in Rejang Park.

With the assistance of the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC), this project involved reinstalling new septic tanks for affected residents, repairing collapsed sewer pipes and manholes, and improving both residential and commercial sewerage systems to ensure each household has its own septic tank.

However, before the project was completed, 320 households had paid out of their own pockets to purchase and install individual septic tanks.

These residents had appealed to Tiang for financial assistance.

In response, he pledged in 2020 to seek compensation from the Premier.

After persistent efforts, the Premier agreed to provide the compensation funds.

Following continuous outreach by the service centre and community leaders, 195 homeowners have already registered.

There are still 125 homeowners who have yet to do so.

Tiang urges these homeowners to come forward promptly to register and claim their rightful compensation.

“He also calls on the residents concerned  to help spread the word to their relatives and friends in the area,” the statement added.

For homeowners unsure about their eligibility, they are encouraged to contact the service centre at 012-7609822.

Alternatively, they may visit the centre in person for inquiries.

Proof of ownership documents are required, such as identity cards, land titles, assessment bills, or utility bills.
