KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 127 families in Serian, Sarawak, will soon have safer and more comfortable homes under the ‘Program Perumahan Rakyat Sejahtera’ (PPRS) initiative, with RM4.23 million allocated for new builds and repairs this year.
The Ministry of Rural and Regional Development, in a written reply to Serian Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Dr Richard Riot Jaem, in the Dewan Rakyat on Thursday, said 26 new houses had been approved – 18 in Serian and eight in Tebedu – at a total cost of RM2.21 million.
Another 101 existing houses were approved for upgrading works worth RM2.02 million, bringing the total number of beneficiaries to 127 households.
The ministry said the programme targets hard-core poor and low-income families listed in the e-Kasih database or verified by local poverty eradication committees.
Applicants must not own a house or be living in unsafe conditions and must have their own land or permission to use family land.
