LAWAS: A total of 1,289 underprivileged individuals received Aidilfitri contributions through the Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2026/1447H Presentation Ceremony held at a hotel here on Saturday (March 14).

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said such welfare initiatives reflect the community’s concern in assisting those in need, especially in conjunction with the upcoming Aidilfitri celebration.

“May the contributions bring joy to those who truly need them as we celebrate Aidilfitri, a month full of blessings, and remind us of the values of love and togetherness in society,” he said when officiating the event and presenting the contributions to the recipients.

Awang Tengah, who is also the Bukit Sari assemblyman said that the values of mutual assistance and community care must continue to be nurtured to ensure happiness can be enjoyed by all segments of society.

Meanwhile, he stressed that the Sarawak government remains committed to ensuring the state’s development progresses alongside economic growth and the well-being of the people through various initiatives benefiting the community.

“I hope the youth will play their role as the future generation by fostering a sense of shared responsibility in developing a more prosperous society,” he added.

Meanwhile, Malaysian Islamic Welfare Organisation (PERKIM) Lawas branch chairwoman, Datuk Dayang Morliah Datuk Awang Daud, said the programme is not merely an annual event but serves as an important platform to cultivate a spirit of welfare and care within the community.

“We greatly appreciate the concern of donors who continuously support PERKIM Lawas’ welfare efforts, which in turn encourage the implementation of more programmes in the future,” she said.

Organised by PERKIM Lawas Branch, a total of 1,289 recipients from four categories received assistance comprising 171 orphans, 186 single mothers, 150 children with disabilities and 782 senior citizens in the Lawas District.
