BAU: Early morning operations yesterday (Dec 9) led to the arrest of 13 local men for allegedly possessing and abusing drugs.

District police chief Supt Mohd Haide A Rahman said the arrests were made during a sweep in Kampung Bobak, Kampung Bobak Sejinjang and Kampung Daun, where four suspects aged between 20 and 33 were detained with 6.52g of suspected syabu.

The seized substances were found in small plastic packets, with estimated values ranging from RM20 to RM550.

“At 5.45 am, police arrested a 25-year-old unemployed man at an unnumbered house in Kampung Bobak and recovered 0.54g of suspected syabu. Shortly after, a 23-year-old contract worker was detained at another house in the same village with 0.18g of syabu.

“Later at 6.30 am, a 33-year-old labourer was arrested by the roadside of Kampung Bobak Sejinjang after possessing 14 plastic packets containing 5.41g of syabu.

“The fourth arrest involved a 20-year-old labourer at an unnumbered house in Kampung Daun, where 0.39g of the drug was seized,” he said.

He added that the remaining nine suspects were arrested at the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) office after preliminary urine tests on all 13 suspects returned positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.

Mohd Haide said all of them admitted to abusing syabu the day before their arrest.

Background checks showed only one had prior drug-related records, while the others were first-time offenders.

The four suspects caught with drugs will be remanded to facilitate investigations under Section 39A(1) and Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, while those tested positive will be investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act.
