BAU: Police detained 13 men in drug enforcement operations conducted across several villages here in the early hours of Thursday (Jan 8).
Bau police chief Supt Mohd Haide A.Rahman said the raids were carried out by the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division (NCID) of the Bau IPD, with assistance from IPD Bau personnel, from about 4.45 am to 9.3 0am on Jan 8.
He said checks were conducted around Kampung Bariêng, Kampung Segong, Kampung Apar, Kampung Grogo and Kampung Pangkalan.
“During the operation, 13 men aged between 19 and 66 were detained for suspected involvement in drug abuse,” he said in a statement.
He added that three of the suspects were arrested under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for possession of drugs believed to be syabu.
Initial urine screening tests conducted on all the suspects showed positive results for drugs, and they were subsequently detained under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Mohd Haide said police would not compromise on any involvement in drug abuse and would take firm action against those found offending.
He also called on the public to assist police by channelling information related to drug activities through the Bukit Aman NCID hotline at 012-208 7222 or the Sarawak NCID contingent hotline at 017-592 9211.
