KOTA SAMARAHAN: It was a moment of pride and excitement for 13-year-old Marissa Graciewenndy Robert after being selected to attend the Women’s Football Development Training Camp in Dahn, Germany, from Aug 17 to 24.
Her selection marks a historic milestone for Sarawak football, as she becomes the only Malaysian female player invited to train in a country regarded as a powerhouse in the global women’s game.
“This is an opportunity I never even dreamed of,” Marissa told Arena Suara Sarawak.
“Whatever it is, I will make the most of it and give it my all.”
A striker by position, Marissa previously trained under the National Football Development Programme (NFDP) Sarawak from age 10 to 12.
She is now part of the Sarawak Women’s Football Development Programme under the Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC), and trains with the Samarahan Football Academy operated by Sahmura Kenyalang Football Club.
She described the upcoming camp in Germany as a golden opportunity to broaden her horizons and elevate her performance on the pitch.
“I believe players from other countries will also be there, and that will be a valuable experience to improve my skills and overall game,” she added.
Marissa, currently a student at SMK Kota Samarahan, is also competing in the Petronas Under-14 and Under-16 Youth Indoor Football Championship 2025 with the Samarahan Football Academy.
Her father, Robert Anak Sulis, expressed pride upon learning of her selection.
“Our family sees this as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for her to learn top-level football techniques and gain international exposure,” he said.
He added that he is confident Marissa will have no trouble adapting to the training environment in Germany.
