KUCHING: A total of 136.74 kilometres of main routes in Sarawak will be upgraded into four-lane dual carriageways (JKR R5 standard) under the government’s Redline Project, ensuring safer, more comfortable, and more efficient journeys for road users.
Works Minister, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, said the initiative focuses on improving existing routes along several sections of the Pan Borneo Highway that were not included in the first phase of the project.
He explained that the Redline Project comprises two main components: the Redline Short Stretch, covering 17.1 kilometres across nine sections in Lachau, Selangau, Balingian, Kemena, Sebiew and Tudan; and the Redline Long Stretch, spanning 119.64 kilometres across Durin and Salim, Kemena, Tudan, Batu Kawa and Padawan.
During his working visit to the Tudan Section in Miri, Nanta inspected a 9.7-kilometre stretch estimated to cost RM86 million.

He said the works would involve strengthening and rehabilitating pavement structures, improving drainage systems, installing reflectorised raised pavement markers (RRPM), and upgrading road furniture and safety features along the existing federal route.
“Once completed, these upgrades will enhance road connectivity and safety for the people of Sarawak,” he said in a Facebook post today.
However, Nanta noted that approval from the Finance Ministry (MOF) and the Works Ministry (KKR) is still pending for the Tudan section’s upgrading works.
