KUCHING: A total of 140 development projects are currently being implemented under the Ministry of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development (M-FICORD), aimed at strengthening Sarawak’s agriculture, commodities, and regional growth sectors.

Ministry permanent secretary Datuk Sirai Daha said the projects include 49 physical and 91 non-physical initiatives carried out through various implementing agencies.

“The key agencies involved are the Department of Agriculture Sarawak (DoA), Department of Veterinary Services Sarawak (DVS), Department of Irrigation and Drainage Sarawak (DID), Public Works Department Sarawak (JKR), Sarawak Land Consolidation and Rehabilitation Authority (SALCRA), Sarawak Land Development Board (SLDB), Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA), and Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC),” he said.

Delivering his speech at the ministry’s appreciation ceremony held at the Grand Margherita Hotel on Tuesday (Jun 10), Sirai revealed that as of Apr 30, 2025, 16 physical projects had been completed, 10 were on schedule, and 23 were in the planning stage.

The 91 non-physical projects, he added, are all currently in the implementation phase.

Sirai also announced the ministry’s upcoming involvement in several high-impact programmes to promote Sarawak’s food, commodity, and regional development sectors at both national and international levels.

“These include Sarawak Week at the Malaysia Expo in Osaka, Japan from Aug 1-10; Sarawak Agrofest 2025 from Aug 22-31 in Bintulu; and the Sarawak Entrepreneurs Showcase organised by MINTRED in Bintulu from Jun 26-29.

“There will also be participation at Queensbay Mall, Penang from Aug 28-Sept 1; Mini MAHA 2025 at MAEPS Serdang from Oct 22-28; Lan Berambeh 2025 at MITEC, Kuala Lumpur on Oct 25; and the Sarawak Mega Fair 2025 in Singapore from Oct 16-19,” he said.

He stressed the importance of these events in showcasing Sarawak’s products and economic potential to wider audiences.

“These initiatives are made possible through strong collaboration between the ministry and our implementing agencies.

“We deeply appreciate their continued commitment and willingness to pool resources in achieving our development goals,” Sirai said.
