ASAJAYA: A total of 14,818 residents in the district are eligible to receive assistance under the Sarawak Basic Needs Contribution (SKAS) initiative introduced by the state government.
Asajaya assemblyman Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the government, through the initiative, remains committed to strengthening the social safety net to help the people, particularly low-income groups, cope with the rising cost of living.
Of the total recipients, he said 7,532 are under the household category and will receive RM950 each.
“In addition, 1,883 senior citizens will receive RM500 each, while 5,403 recipients in the single category will receive RM300 each,” he said after officiating the Bubur Lambuk Distribution and Lan Berambeh Sungkei Belia Asajaya 2026 programmes at the Asajaya Sports Complex on Saturday (Mar 7).
Abdul Karim said the SKAS assistance will be distributed in three stages on March 10, July 7 and November 10 this year.
The Sarawak government has allocated RM640 million for the implementation of SKAS this year, to be distributed in three phases.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg had previously announced that the allocation increased from RM480.2 million last year, with 857,814 recipients eligible to receive assistance under the respective cate
The first payment will be distributed before Hari Raya Aidilfitri, followed by the second payment ahead of Gawai Dayak, while the third payment in November aims to help families prepare for their children’s schooling.
Meanwhile, Abdul Karim also handed over bubur lambuk to members of the public, presented contributions to asnaf recipients from the Asajaya area and joined the local community for the breaking of fast at the event.
