SIBU: A total of 15 infrastructure projects have been approved by the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) for implementation in the Mid Rajang region, aimed at strengthening regional development and improving basic infrastructure, particularly in rural areas.
Chairman of the Mid Rajang Regional Development Agency (MiRRDA) Infrastructure Development Working Committee, Christopher Gira Sambang, said all the approved projects were currently at the early stages of implementation.
“All 15 projects approved by the EPU are now in the preliminary phase, involving the appointment of consultants and land surveyors, as well as the implementation of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA),” he said when chairing the MiRRDA Infrastructure Development Working Committee meeting at the MiRRDA office, Wisma Sanyan, here today (Jan 23).
Gira, who is also the Tamin state assemblyman, added that physical construction works for the projects were expected to begin towards the end of this year, subject to technical approvals and compliance with all regulatory requirements.
“With proper planning, continuous monitoring and effective governance, we are confident these projects can be implemented according to schedule, meet the required specifications and deliver the best value to the people,” he said.
The meeting discussed the status of ongoing infrastructure planning, technical challenges and implementation issues, particularly those affecting basic facilities in rural parts of the Mid Rajang region.
Key agenda items included strengthening coordination among implementing agencies, improving service delivery systems and ensuring that infrastructure projects have a direct impact on the people’s well-being while stimulating local socio-economic growth.
Gira also called on all relevant agencies to enhance strategic collaboration and adopt an integrated approach to ensure the Mid Rajang development agenda was carried out more effectively, in line with the Sarawak Government’s aspiration for balanced, inclusive and sustainable development.
