BOGOR: President Prabowo Subianto vowed to push ahead with the downstreaming policy initiated by his predecessor, Joko Widodo, launching 15 megaprojects this year — without depending on foreign investment.

“We will drive downstreaming with at least 15 high-value projects worth billions of dollars. But we will not rely on foreign capital,” he said at the Gerindra Party’s 17th-anniversary event in Bogor, West Java, on Saturday, as reported by ANTARA.

Prabowo stressed the need to harness Indonesia’s natural resources for national benefit while keeping the doors open to foreign investors — on Indonesia’s terms.

“We welcome investors, but we will not plead. We will rise with our own strength,” he affirmed.

He linked the policy to his administration’s key missions, the Asta Cita, and emphasised its potential to create jobs, particularly in the maritime sector, fostering a fairer economy.

He also framed it as a continuation of founding president Soekarno’s vision of a self-sufficient Indonesia.

Beyond downstreaming, Prabowo reiterated his commitment to priorities like the Free Nutritious Meals programme, food self-sufficiency, and energy security. – BERNAMA
