SIBU: Traffic police here detained a teenage boy for performing dangerous stunts while riding a motorcycle last Friday (Aug 15).
The 15-year-old was picked up in the four-hour operation, codenamed ‘Op Samseng Jalanan’, which was held from 9.30 pm until 1.30 am.
Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the boy was riding alone at high speed without regard for safety and repeatedly leaned his body forward while doing so.
“The boy, who is employed at a restaurant, is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous riding,” he said.
Throughout the operation held around Jalan Bujang Suntong and Jalan Awang Ramli Amit, police also issued 26 summonses for various offences following inspections on 20 local men.
Among the offences were modified equipment and exhaust, faulty brakes, expired road tax, lack of insurance coverage, as well as fancy and non-compliant license plates.
Zulkipli reminded the public to comply with traffic laws and urged parents to monitor their children closely to prevent them from getting involved in illegal street activities.
