SERIAN: A total of 150 families in the constituency received food baskets and festive hampers under the PETRONAS Uplifting Lives Gawai 2025 programme.

Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister, Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn, said the initiative aligns with the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

He said the event demonstrated how corporate entities can work together with government agencies to support a more inclusive, sustainable and harmonious society.

“Efforts like these remind us of our shared responsibility to support those in need, especially during festive times such as Gawai.

“To all recipients celebrated today, know that this programme is a symbol of support and care from many who wish to see you move forward.

“May this assistance not only bring joy this Gawai, but also inspire more parties to continue contributing to community well-being,” he said when attending the event at Kampung Tarat Melawi here today.

PETRONAS Sarawak’s General Manager, Norazibah M. Rabu, said the programme was part of the company’s ‘Community Well-being and Development’ pillar under Yayasan PETRONAS.

“This is our way of sharing a little happiness during this meaningful celebration, because we believe everyone deserves to feel the festive spirit,” she said.

She said the 150 beneficiaries in Serian were selected with the help of the Social Welfare Department (JKM) Serian division.

They received food baskets containing cooking oil, glutinous rice, canned food, condiments, and local coffee.

The programme was spearheaded by PETRONAS’ social impact arm, Yayasan PETRONAS, and organised in collaboration with JKM Serian to affirm PETRONAS’ commitment towards assisting the less privileged members of society.

Across Sarawak, she said a total of 750 families benefited from similar contributions, including 400 families in Miri and Bintulu.

Norazibah expressed her hope that the aid would not only reduce the burden of recipients, but also strengthen the spirit of Gawai with gratitude and joy.
