MIRI: Around 1,500 people from all walks of life gathered at the Miri City Stadium today for a Zumba session, officially launching the Sarawak Day 2025 celebrations.
Held at Miri City Stadium, the event was officiated by Minister of Transport and Minister-in-Charge of the Sarawak Day 2025 Celebration, Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin.
In his speech, Lee reminded the public that Sarawak Day is more than a historical commemoration but it is a celebration of unity, harmony, and the state’s ongoing progress.
“Sarawak Day is not just about remembering our history, but about embracing our identity — as Sarawakians who are united in building a brighter future together.

“But more important than the celebration itself is the spirit we carry forward — the spirit to stay healthy, active, and committed to contributing to our beloved state.”
He added that this year’s theme, ‘Sarawak Maju Makmur’ carries deep meaning, highlighting not just physical and economic development, but also the well-being of the people, particularly in health, unity, and quality of life.
“A strong Sarawak begins with healthy, resilient, and happy citizens,” he said. “Sarawak’s people must stay healthy to contribute, strong to persevere, and united to go further.”
Lee expressed hope that health-oriented programmes like Zumba will become a regular part of Sarawak’s lifestyle culture, involving people of all ages and communities across the state.
