KUCHING: The Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) Graduate & Student Section Sarawak Branch is targeting approximately 1,500 runners to participate in its IEM Engineers’ Run this year.

With the theme “Electrifying Night Run”, the event will be held on 30 September, 2017 in the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) compound and graced by Minister of Local Government and Housing, Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian.

According to the organising chairman, James Sim, the aim of the run is to introduce engineering, particularly electrical engineering, as a profession to the public.

“It also aims to raise funds for the Sarawak Heart Foundation.

“Also, in conjunction with the upcoming Lantern Festival, all participants of the 2-km fun walk will be provided with free lanterns. It will be an ideal family activity,” he said.

Sim added that this year, a new category would be added.

The “Corporate Category” encourages companies and organisations to team up to win the Corporate Challenge Trophy.

“The 12-km run will be flagged off at 6.45pm, the 6-km run at 7pm and the 2-km fun walk at 7.15pm.

“There will also be a lucky draw session towards the end of the race,” he said.

The race packs can be collected at Revolution Run, Green Heights Mall from 28 to 29 September 2017; runners are reminded to bring their collection slips.
