MIRI: Sixteen drug offenders who had skipped their court-ordered bail conditions were rearrested in a two-day operation on Wednesday (June 18).
According to the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK), the operation, codenamed Ops Kesan, was launched on June 16 and 17, targeting individuals who had previously failed to report to AADK as required.
Ten of those detained were from the city area, while six were from Subis area.
“All of them were found to have violated their bail terms and will now be sent for mandatory rehabilitation.
“They have been ordered to undergo a two-year institutional rehabilitation programme at the Narcotics Addiction Rehabilitation Centre (PUSPEN) in Kuching, under Section 6(1)(a) of the Drug Dependants (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983 (Amendment 1998).
“Meanwhile, two other individuals have been instructed to follow a two-year community-based rehab programme under Section 6(1)(b) of the same Act,” the agency said.
AADK said such operation was part of its ongoing mission to uphold bail compliance and to give drug dependants a second chance through structured rehabilitation.
