KUCHING: A total of 160 stalls have been prepared for Ramadan Bazaar 2026 at the designated locations under the administration of Kuching South City Council (MBKS).

The bazaar will once again be held at the car parks of Stutong Commercial Centre and Stutong Community Market, continuing an arrangement that has proven effective in previous years.

MBKS Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said the selected locations provide a safe, accessible and well-organised environment, ensuring a comfortable bazaar experience for both traders and visitors.

“The Ramadan Bazaar will operate throughout the fasting month, from Thursday, Feb 19, to Friday, March 20, 2026.

“The bazaar is expected to offer a vibrant and orderly marketplace, featuring a wide variety of food and beverages catering to the diverse preferences of the public,” he told a press conference at the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) office here today.

“Applications for stall operators are now open, with MBKS inviting interested individuals to submit their applications in accordance with the council’s guidelines.

“Application forms will be available beginning Dec 22, 2025 during office hours from One Stop Service Counter 9 at Dewan Bandaraya Kuching Selatan, Jalan Padungan.

“Completed application forms must be submitted to the same counter no later than 4 pm on Jan 6, and late submissions will not be considered,” he said.

He added that applicants are required to submit supporting documents including a passport-sized photograph, a copy of their identification card and a valid food handler’s course certificate.

“They must also provide proof of medical examination and typhoid vaccination, which are to be undertaken at the applicant’s own cost.

To ensure fair access, MBKS emphasised that husband and wife teams are not allowed to operate or hold more than one stall under their names.

“Successful applicants will be required to pay a rental fee of RM300 per stall, together with a deposit of RM100 for the duration of the bazaar.

“As Kuching is recognised as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy, MBKS encourages traders to introduce creative and innovative food offerings while maintaining hygiene and quality standards.

MBKS will continue its collaboration with the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) and Pertubuhan Pemuda GEMA through the MySaveFood Ramadan Project.

“For Ramadan Bazaar 2026, MBKS aims to increase the recovery of surplus food by 20 per cent compared to 2025, building on encouraging past results.

“Environmental sustainability remains a priority, with the use of Styrofoam and plastic packaging strongly discouraged in favour of reusable and eco-friendly alternatives,” he said.
