171 Kolej Vokasional students graduate with vocational certificates

KUCHING: A total of 171 students from Kolej Vokasional Kuching (KV Kuching) were awarded the Malaysian Vocational Certificate (SVM) 2025 at the college’s convocation ceremony, which celebrated academic achievement, parental support and the role of TVET in nation-building.

Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Francis Harden Hollis, who represented Minister Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn, congratulated the graduates and thanked parents, guardians and lecturers for their sacrifices.

“Today is a meaningful milestone. It honours the hard work, discipline and perseverance of our students, and the unwavering support of those who guided them,” he said during his speech at the Malaysian Vocational Certificate Graduation Ceremony for the 2023 Cohort today.

He said vocational graduates were essential contributors to the state’s industrial growth and innovation.

“Your achievements reflect the importance of vocational education in providing practical skills that prepare our youth for the world of work,” he added.

He stressed that TVET is regarded by the Sarawak Government as a crucial pillar of the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, particularly in preparing a competent, future-ready workforce for green technology, automation and the digital economy.

“Institutions like Kolej Vokasional Kuching play a key role in this effort by equipping young Sarawakians with the right skills, discipline and work ethics,” he added.

“With this certificate, and with the prayers and hopes of parents and lecturers, I am confident our graduates will become individuals of excellence, in line with the college’s aspirations and the country’s goal of producing first-class human capital.”

Meanwhile, KV Kuching Director, Michael Akien, echoed the congratulations, adding that TVET remains a critical pathway for Malaysia’s skilled workforce.

“You have chosen the right path. TVET is the new light for the country, aligned with industry needs and the demand for a highly skilled workforce,” he said.

The 171 graduates come from eight programmes: 26 from Electrical Technology, 29 from Electronic Technology and 11 from Industrial Machining.

Twelve students graduated from Fashion Design, 27 from Culinary Arts and 28 from Automotive Technology.

The cohort also includes 16 Accounting graduates and 22 Business Management graduates, reflecting the wide range of technical and vocational fields offered at KV Kuching.

“This certificate is not the end; it is the starting point,” Michael added.

“We believe you will continue your studies and contribute to the nation once you enter the workforce.”
