KUCHING: Eighteen schools in Batu Kawah are receiving grants from the Sarawak government for their daily operations.
The first of the 18 schools to receive the grant from Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian was Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Garland. Headmaster Stanley Sagir received the grant today (Jan 13).
“SK Garland is one of the 18 schools that I am presenting grants to. I am visiting the rest today. I am giving out the state government grants first because the federal government’s allocation is only expected to come in by the middle of February.

“This is the time that the teachers and schools need funding. Otherwise, the schools would not have the money to carry out their daily operations,” he told reporters before moving on to the other schools.
Apart from that, the school also received mandarin oranges from Dr Sim in conjunction with the upcoming Chinese New Year celebration.
Also present was a political secretary to the Premier of Sarawak, Tan Kai.
Earlier, SK Garland had its Recycling Awareness Day and prize giving ceremony in conjunction with the Joint Solid Waste Segregation and Recycling Programme.
The programme was organised by Padawan Municipal Council (MPC), SK Garland and Trienekens (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd.
