KUCHING: A total of 180 individuals from various welfare institutions and target groups received contributions during the ‘Majlis Ramah Mesra Ramadan Bersama Kumpulan Sasar’ event by the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) at Pullman Kuching on Friday (Mar 6).
Its Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri presented the donations to recipients including 80 children from welfare institutions, 30 senior citizens from community centres, 50 persons with disabilities (OKU) and 20 asnaf and orphans.
Speaking at the event, Nancy described Ramadan as a “school of life” that nurtures patience and compassion.
“Ramadan teaches us to feel what those in need feel. It teaches us the meaning of sacrifice and, most beautifully, the essence of living together in harmony,” she said.
She emphasised that the presence of children, senior citizens and the OKU community at the gathering served as a vital reminder of the collective responsibility to ensure no one is left behind.
Addressing the younger recipients, Nancy encouraged them to “dream big”, noting that their youth is an invaluable blessing filled with extraordinary potential.
She also paid tribute to the senior citizens and OKU attendees, describing their life experiences and resilience as a true inspiration to society.
“Every one of you has value, has a voice, and holds an important place in our community,” she affirmed.
The minister also extended her gratitude to the staff, caregivers and volunteers who dedicate their lives to looking after the residents of welfare institutions.
“Your sacrifices may not always be in the public eye, but their value is immense. May your sincere efforts be rewarded as a lasting act of charity,” she added.
Among the institutions represented were Rumah Kanak-Kanak Toh Puan Hajah Norkiah, Sekolah Tunas Bakti Kuching, Taman Seri Puteri Kuching, Rumah Kanak-Kanak Datuk Ajibah Abol in Sri Aman and Rumah Seri Kenangan Kuching.
