KUCHING: A total of 188 individuals have been taken off the streets following a large-scale anti-drug operation by narcotics police last month.

The two-week operation, dubbed ‘Ops Tapis Khas Narkotik’, ran from Oct 13 to Oct 31 and targeted known drug hotspots across the city in a bid to disrupt distribution networks and curb abuse.

Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the operation, led by the district’s Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID), combined intelligence work with surprise raids that struck at the heart of local drug activity.

“Altogether, 188 individuals were arrested for various offences under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

“Two of them under Section 39A(1), 14 under Section 12(2), and 172 under Section 15(1)(a).

“From the 172 caught for drug use, five repeat offenders were also charged under Section 39C of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for multiple drug abuse convictions,” he said in a statement.

Police also seized 14.43 grammes (g) of methamphetamine, 0.94g of ketamine, and 0.5g of Erimin 5 pills, with an estimated total value of RM1,780.20.

Alexson stated that all suspects have since been brought before the Kuching Court to face their respective charges.

He assured that the authorities will never compromise with anyone involved in drug activities, and the NCID remains firm in its fight to eradicate drugs, the nation’s number one enemy.

Members of the public are urged to continue reporting information on drug activities through the Bukit Aman NCID hotline at 012-2087222 or Sarawak NCID hotline at 017-5929211.
