KUCHING: The Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) contributed more than RM50,000 to benefit 190 tahfiz students from three Islamic educational institutions during a breaking-of-fast event held at Grand Margherita Hotel here.
The assistance, part of SEDC’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, aims to support community welfare and strengthen Islamic education in the state.
The event on Wednesday (Mar 11) was graced by Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi.
Also present was SEDC chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr Abdul Aziz Husain, along with members of the Sarawak cabinet, SEDC board members, department heads and senior management.
During the event, assistance was presented to three institutions — Madrasah Tahfiz Al-Hannah (MADTAH), Madrasah Darul Uloom Islamiyyah and Pondok Hidayatul Mubtadi-ien Wa Tahfizul Al-Quran.
The contributions included basic equipment and kitchen necessities to help support the daily operations of the institutions while also improving the welfare of their students.
The initiative reflects SEDC’s ongoing commitment to support community development, particularly in the field of Islamic education, which plays a role in producing knowledgeable, well-mannered, and competitive generations.
At the same time, the breaking-of-fast event also served as a platform to strengthen ties between the state leadership, corporate sector, and Islamic educational institutions, in line with the spirit of Ramadan that emphasises compassion, togetherness, and sharing blessings within the community.
