KUCHING: About 200 taekwondo athletes competed at the Kuching Taekwondo and Self-Defence Club (WTF) Taekwondo Kyorugi and Poomsae Championship 2026 in Petra Jaya over the weekend.
Competitors from training centres, schools, colleges and universities across Kuching, Samarahan, Serian, Bau and Lundu took part in both kyorugi (sparring) and poomsae (patterns) events.
The one-day meet, held at the Sarawak SUKMA Taekwondo Training Centre, provided athletes with competitive exposure as they fine-tune their form ahead of upcoming tournaments.
The championship also served as a build-up to the PTNS-SSC-MSNS State Taekwondo Kyorugi and Poomsae Championship 2026, scheduled from Apr 17 to 18 in Bintulu.
Strong participation and competitive match-ups highlighted the growing depth of the sport, particularly at the grassroots level.
