SIBU: The Sarawak Judo Association (PJS) will be sending 21 athletes to participate in the 2025 Johor Judo Open, to be held in Kluang, Johor, from October 16 to 19.
The association’s adviser, Datuk Teo Boon Siew, was invited to present the flag to the PJS President, Datuk Seri Lau Kueng Chai, at the Sibu Airport today while also encouraging the team with positive advice.
Lau noted that the rookie athletes participating in this high-level, large-scale competition are all experiencing the competition for the first time.
As the association aims to win three gold medals, he urged the athletes to maintain a positive attitude and cherish the opportunity to compete against athletes from other states to gain experience.
He also explained that this competition will serve as a warm-up for the SUKMA Games, identifying potential athletes and providing them with training to prepare for next year’s SUKMA Games in Selangor.
In providing the athletes with the opportunity to participate and boost their morale, he has generously sponsored all the competition’s expenses.
“To promote judo in Sarawak, I also sponsored 100 sets of judo uniforms for judo players to encourage them.
“To strengthen the physical training of judo players, I have also asked Sibu judo coach Anderson to find a suitable fitness centre, and I will bear the rental fee,” Lau said.
