SIBU: A total of 21 proposed unity initiatives have been submitted by the Ministry of National Unity (KPN) to the Ministry of Economy for consideration in the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) which will be presented next week.
According to the Minister of National Unity, Datuk Seri Aaron Ago Dagang, all the proposals have been comprehensively formulated to strengthen the elements of nation-building, in line with the focus of the 13MP which places emphasis on national unity as one of the main thrusts of national development.
“A comprehensive policy framework is being formed by the ministry to continuously strengthen the foundations of nation-building.
“This effort is important to foster and instil strong national values in the hearts of Malaysians regardless of background,” he said in his speech read by his Deputy Minister, Senator Saraswathy Kandasami at the opening ceremony for the State Level Unity Week (SMP) 2025 celebration held at town square here on Saturday.
The programme, from July 25 to 27, is organised through the Sarawak National Unity and Integration Department (JPNIN) as part of the implementation of the national unity policy that is being implemented in stages nationwide.
According to Aaron, the initiatives are expected to be a catalyst for the unification of Malaysia’s diverse society through a strategic approach that encompasses various aspects of the people’s lives.
He also explained that the celebration is in line with the ministry’s aspiration to strengthen the harmony and well-being of the people through an inclusive approach that encompasses all levels of society.
Various interesting activities are to be held throughout the three-day celebration which includes People’s Sports, Unity Exercises, Nopeng competition, patriotic film screenings, cultural and ethnic exhibitions.
Also enlivening the programme are the participation of government agencies, art performances, and inter-racial dialogue sessions aimed at strengthening the spirit of goodwill and national integration.
‘Programmes like this not only fuel the spirit of unity among multi-racial communities, but also provide space for people to appreciate each other’s unique cultures in a harmonious atmosphere,” Aaron stated further.
