AS of October this year, 21,384 newborns have registered for the RM1,000 Endowment Fund Sarawak (EFS).
Welfare, Community Well-Being, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said that of the total figure, 75.6 percent of the babies were born in Sarawak.
“The highest registration rates for the fund are from Sri Aman at 98.35 percent, Sarikei (85.57 percent) and Serian (84.82) percent,” she said when delivering her winding-up speech yesterday.
Fatimah added that the lowest registration rates were recorded in Bintulu at 49.80 percent, Kapit (67.29 percent) and Miri (72.28 percent).
“To encourage more parents to register their newborns for the EFS, the ministry has organised 26 roadshows in all 11 divisions in Sarawak,” she said.
