KOTA PADAWAN: The 21st edition of Padawan Raft Safari 2024 is set to take place on Oct 20.
The annual event aims to showcase the region’s commitment to community development, environmental stewardship, and most importantly the Padawan Municipal Council’s (MPP) growth.
MPP chairman Tan Kai said Padawan Raft Safari 2024 features categories such as Open, Women Open, Government Agencies, Hotel Tour and non govermental organisation (NGO), with the inclusion of NGO participants in the Hotel and Tour category as a new highlight.
“We expect 150 local and international teams to participate, demonstrating the event’s growing popularity and appeal.
“Grand closing ceremony will be held at 3pm, officiated by Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah,” he said.
He said this in a press conference for the upcoming event at MPP’s committee room here on Wednesday (July 31).
He then stated that this year, the event emphasises its commitment to sustainability by aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG) and being part of the Sarawak Delta Geopark initiative.
“This green event aims to promote environmental consciousness and community engagement in preserving our natural heritage,” he stated.
On another note, organising chairman Andrew Victor Nub encourages all participants and spectators to join in the celebration of adventure and community sprint.
“The Padawan Raft Safari 2024 is not just an event, it’s a testament to our collective efforts in promoting tourism, fostering community bonds, and protecting our environment.
“We look forward to an exciting and impactful event this year,” he said.
The event will start at various locations and times to accommodate different categories, which 7.30am at Kampung Annah Rais for the Kayak Category (40KM), 8.30am at Kampung Temurang for the Open Category (32KM), 9.30am at Kampung Danu for Government Agencies, Hotel Tour & NGD categories (22KM), and 10.30am at Kampung Semedang for Women Open Category (15KM).

The registration is open on the website starting July 31, and closing on Sept 20.
