225 new cases in Sarawak

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 225 positive new cases today, bringing the state’s total number of Covid-19 cases to 13,110.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in a statement, said of the total, only 28 individuals showed signs and symptoms of Covid-19 when screening was conducted.

“Eighty-eight cases were recorded in Miri district followed by Kuching (32), Bintulu (30), Serian (18), Sibu (13), Sri Aman (12), Kapit (11), Meradong (seven), Bukit Mabong (five), Betong (four), Samarahan (four) and Song (one).

“One hundred and eighty four individuals detected were individuals under quarantine order at designated quarantine centres. They consisted of 178 individuals who were identified as close contacts to Covid-19 positive cases and six individuals who had returned from high risk areas (Import B),” said SDMC.  

It also revealed there were only three symptomatic individuals out of the 142 cases screened for close contacts to Covid-19 positive cases.

“Of the 36 cases screened from active clusters, 13 were symptomatic individuals. 32 cases were from other screenings at health facilities with three symptomatic individuals.

“Nine cases were symptomatic individuals screened at health facilities while six imported cases involved individuals returning from other states in Malaysia ,” added SDMC.
