SERIAN: The Malaysian Red Crescent, Serian Chapter held a 3-day Link Camp 2017 at SK St. Philip Bugu, Serian from 28 April to 1 May.
The Camp Organising Committee included youth members as the group facilitators and VAD members in the cooking team.
Also present at the launching ceremony on 28 April, were MRC Chairman of Serian Chapter, Dr Kiu Chiong Chin, Secretary, Junerason Anyew, Publicity Officer, Joseph Then, PK1, Sufian Safee, Chairman of the Camp Organising Committee, Simon Mpulop, Camp Commandant, Zainal Lambi, VAD (Voluntary Aid Detachment) members, parents of the participants and MRC members.
An Education Officer, Serian will officiate at the closing ceremony on 1 May.
In his launching speech, Dr Kiu said he was glad to note that MRC Serian Chapter has been one of most active MRCs in the state by holding many activities under the very experienced officers like Ms Phang Nyuk Lan and Mr Simon Mpulop.
He added that to serve people one must have faith on the people, hope for a better life and love willingly. His speech was translated to Bahasa Malaysia by MRC Secretary, Junerason Anyew.
A total of 23 primary schools with 138 students and 46 teachers-in-charge in the Serian District participated in the camp.
The participating schools were SK St. Philip Bugu, SK Daha, SK Krangan, SK Engkaroh, SK Mapu, SK Koran, SK Melansai, SK Krait, SK Merbau, SK Pati, SK Sejijag, SK Pridan, SK St. Anthony Kawan, SK Reteh, SK St. Dominic Pichin, SK Riih Daso, SK St. Henry Slabi, SK St. John Mantung, SK Tanah Merah, SK St. Michael Mongkos, SK Tarat, SK St. Raymond Mujat and SK Tebedu.
The Camp was meant to improve teamwork performances, leadership among the participants and their skills on first aid, gadget and jungle cooking besides providing opportunity for them to meet members from other units and to exchange ideas.
Many activities were held for the Camp participants such as first aid lessons and competition, basic gadget competition, morning drill and exercise, jungle hiking, backwoods cooking competition, tele-mach and talent night.
