KUCHING: Some 23,000 people from various backgrounds attended the Head of State’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri Open House at Astana Negeri Sarawak today (Mar 21).
Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, hosted the annual open house, which ran from 9 am to 4 pm.
Guests were treated to a wide array of local delicacies, including laksa Sarawak, chicken and beef rendang, ketupat and lemang, as well as desserts such as kek lapis Sarawak and gula apong ice cream.
The festive atmosphere was further enlivened by local performers who entertained the crowd with Hari Raya-themed songs.

Special arrangements were also made to ensure inclusivity, with a dedicated dining area provided for persons with disabilities (PwD).
Among those present were Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof, and Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, along with their spouses.
Several state assemblymen also attended, including Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali (Samariang), Datuk Lo Khere Chiang (Batu Kitang), Wilfred Yap Sau Sin (Kota Sentosa) and Ding Kuong Hii (Meradong).
The event also featured a group photo session involving various organisations and government agencies with the Head of State and his wife.
Despite the hot weather, members of the public continued to queue outside the venue, with some arriving via shuttle vans due to limited parking near the Astana.
