KUCHING: More than 180 volunteers rolled up their sleeves to plant 2,500 indigenous tree saplings at Sabal Forest Reserve in Simunjan today.
The tree-planting event was held in conjunction with Cahya Mata Sarawak Bhd’s (Cahya Mata’s) second Arbor Day activity this year, organised in collaboration with the Forest Department Sarawak (FDS).
FDS in a statement said it follows the first Arbor Day effort on April 26, which also saw 2,500 saplings planted at the same location.
Among the volunteers were senior management and staff from Cahya Mata, students and lecturers from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) and UNITAR College Kuching, members of the local Sabal community, and FDS staff led by officer, Haazizkin Jumat.

Cahya Mata’s Group Chief Financial Officer Designate Azhar Othman, Chief Risk Officer Idzam Yuhaizi Mohd Yunos, Group Human Resources Acting Head Wendy Yong, and Cement Strategic Business Unit Managing Director Choong Ju Tang also participated.
“Arbor Day is part of Cahya Mata’s many ongoing efforts to support local communities and underserved segments of society through various corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes and activities.
“The programme today was also run in supporting the Greening Sarawak Campaign led by FDS,” the statement added.
