KUCHING: Twenty-six foreigners, including six women, were arrested in a two-day immigration enforcement operation held across the city earlier this week.
Based on gathered intelligence, the Kuching Immigration Enforcement Unit launched three operations codenamed ‘Ops Belanja’, ‘Ops Selera’, and ‘Ops Sapu’ on Tuesday and Wednesday, targeting eateries, shared residences and construction sites.
A total of 92 individuals of various nationalities were inspected during the operation.
Of these, 26 were taken into custody for immigration offences such as overstaying, abusing social visit passes and staying in the country without valid permits.
The detainees, comprising 20 men and six women, are being investigated under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Immigration Regulations.
In light of this, the department reminded the public, especially employers and premises owners, not to employ or harbour foreign workers without valid documents.
Those found flouting the law or abetting such offences will face stern action.
