SIBU: A total of RM54,000 fund allocation has been distributed by Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian to 27 houses of worship, including churches and temples, in the Bawang Assan constituency.
The distribution in the form of minor rural project (MRP) fund was presented by Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Central Youth Chief, Councillor Kevin Lau Kor Jie, who represented Dr Sim, at a ceremony held at SUPP Sibu headquarters on Saturday.
Each house of worship received RM2,000 and this is the second time the MRP fund has been distributed to houses of worship in the area.
In his speech, Lau expressed his appreciation to Dr Sim for the contributions given, especially to houses of worship in the Bawang Assan area.
According to him, the contributions not only help the activities and services of the houses of worship, but also contribute to efforts to maintain harmony and welfare of the local community.
“Houses of worship are not just places to get closer to God, but also a space to find peace and foster unity in the community,” he said.
Lau, who is also SUPP Bawang Assan Branch chairman stressed that although the amount of the donation was not large, it brought significant meaning to the groups assisted by the houses of worship.
He also touched on the aspirations of Dr Sim, who often emphasises efforts to build Sarawak’s strength, including demanding economic rights in the medical and education sectors and boosting the state’s economic development.
At the same time, he emphasised the importance of all parties to continue to work together in preserving the harmony and spirit of unity of the multi-racial community in Sarawak.
He said that he, along with his team, tribal leaders, community leaders and council members, will continue to work with all parties to build a more harmonious and stable community in order to bring Sarawak and the Bawang Assan area to a more developed direction.
