BEIRUT: Israeli strikes killed at least 28 people and injured 42 across southern, central and eastern Lebanon on Thursday amid continued violations of a ceasefire agreement, according to official Lebanese reports.
Anadolu Ajansi reported that the attacks included 95 airstrikes and nine artillery shelling operations targeting residential neighbourhoods, commercial areas and main roads in several districts across the country.
The victims included six children, five women, two Lebanese soldiers and a family targeted while attempting to flee violence in southern Lebanon.
In Nabatieh district, Israeli strikes heavily targeted residential and commercial areas in the city of Nabatieh and surrounding towns, destroying several buildings and a mosque near a Lebanese Red Cross centre.
A strike on the Zefta-Deir al-Zahrani road killed two Lebanese soldiers, while an attack in Jibsheet killed a Bangladeshi worker, his wife and their child after their vehicle was targeted.
In Sidon district, an Israeli strike on a vehicle of a family attempting to flee on the Adloun Highway killed six people, including two children and their parents.
Another strike targeted an apartment in a multi-story residential building in the Qiyaa area of Sidon, killing five people, including two women, and wounding 21 others, among them children.
In Tyre district, Israeli strikes targeted several towns and neighbourhoods, while one attack hit a cafe and residential building on Hiram Street, sparking a fire and rescue operations under the rubble.
Another strike flattened a building in the Zuqouq al-Mufti area of Tyre, while additional attacks targeted roads and residential areas across the district.
The Israeli army also issued fresh evacuation warnings covering areas in the city of Tyre, including neighbourhoods, refugee camps and areas near Hiram Hospital.
Israeli artillery shelling also targeted several towns in Nabatieh, Marjayoun, Tyre and Hasbaya districts.
In eastern Lebanon, an Israeli strike targeted the town of Sohmor in the Western Bekaa district.
An Israeli strike also hit an apartment in the Al-Rayan residential complex in Choueifat near Beirut’s southern suburbs, killing three people, including a woman, her infant daughter and a Syrian child, while injuring 15 others.
The attacks are part of continued Israeli violations of a ceasefire agreement that went into effect on April 17 and was later extended until early July.
