PADAWAN: Police officers must be equipped with more than just physical strength to meet the demands of modern policing in this digital era; they must also possess technological knowledge and mental resilience.

294 cadets have successfully completed six months of intense physical and mental training at Pulapol Kuching.

Bukit Aman Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS) Director CP Datuk Hamzah Ahmad said the complexity of today’s crimes requires officers to be more adaptable and intelligent in their approach.

He pointed out that criminal activities are no longer limited to robbery or theft.

“They have evolved into sophisticated threats such as cybercrime, online scams, misinformation, social media slander, and even extremism.

“Hence, every officer must have integrity that cannot be bought or sold. The training you’ve undergone emphasised not just physical readiness, but also mental and spiritual endurance so you are prepared to handle job pressures with wisdom and professionalism,” he said.

Hamzah was speaking during the closing ceremony of the 76th Intake of the Basic Constable Police Course Series 3/2025 at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol) Kuching today, where 294 cadets completed six months of intensive training.

Of the total, one holds the Malaysian Higher Religious Certificate (STAM), two have degrees, nine possess diplomas, seven have the Malaysian Skills Certificate (SKM), 42 completed the Malaysian Higher School Certificate (STPM), and 233 are SPM holders.

“This is not merely the end of training. It marks the beginning of a great responsibility – to protect the country and be a role model in society,” he told the cadets.

Hamzah stated that the noble values instilled throughout their training – discipline, loyalty, trustworthiness and firmness will serve as guiding principles in carrying out their duties.

“No matter the challenge, always uphold the principles of truth and justice,” he said.

He also commended the trainers for their dedication in shaping the cadets into disciplined officers and acknowledged the important role of parents and families who supported them throughout their journey.
