KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Housing and Local Government and the National Landscape Department are aiming for the landscape industry to contribute 3.5 per cent to the gross domestic product (GDP) by 2035.

National Landscape Department director-general Mansor Mohamad said this 10-year target will be supported by several action plans outlined in the Industry Landscape Blueprint.

“The landscape industry has contributed nearly RM27 billion or 1.7 per cent to the national GDP based on the Malaysia Standard Industry Classification and the Department of Statistics.

“This amount is significant, and after the pandemic, the industry has grown by 15 per cent,” he said during the Ruang Bicara programme on Bernama TV yesterday.

Mansor stated that National Landscape Day 2024, which will be celebrated from May 24 to June 2, is a platform for landscape industry players to promote and market their products.

“We have 150 exhibition booths. Over the ten days, I believe there will be business matching opportunities, such as the exchange of business prospects, along with various forums and dialogues,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ruang Bicara’s other guest, the Mayor of Shah Alam City Council, Cheremi Tarman, announced that His Majesty the King of Malaysia, Sultan Ibrahim will officiate the National Landscape Day 2024 celebration at Taman Tasik Shah Alam, Selangor.

“We are distributing 2,000 ornamental trees and fruit trees to visitors. This initiative aims to attract more visitors and raise awareness about landscaping,” he said.

Cheremi added that the event will feature programmes such as the National Landscape Awards 2024, the Green Urban Forum, Speakers’ Corner, a fun run, a mini orchid show, and a firefighting demonstration. – BERNAMA
