MARUDI: A total of three million hectares of Native Customary Rights (NCR) land had been surveyed under Section 6 of the Sarawak Land Code as of September this year.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the Land and Survey Department had also gazetted 2.3 million hectares from that amount, reflecting steady progress under the state’s long-term NCR surveying initiative.

He said the outcome was the result of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s directive to accelerate surveying and give NCR landowners clearer legal assurance.

“In addition, 310,616 hectares have been surveyed under Section 18 involving 105,344 lots, and titles have been issued for 117,234 hectares.

“In Miri Division, 244,592 hectares were approved for survey. Under Section 6, 92,000 hectares have been surveyed, and 81,000 hectares have been gazetted.

“Under Section 18, 40,000 hectares were approved, and 24,000 hectares have been surveyed,” he said during the launch of the Miri-Marudi-Mulu (Kuala Melinau) and Long Panai-Long Lama (MMMLL) road project officiated by Abang Johari here today.

Uggah asserted the Premier had consistently demonstrated that government commitments were translated into concrete action, including support for houses of worship regardless of religion or background.

“In Baram alone, RM19.344 million has been allocated for churches and temples, followed by RM4.8 million in Marudi, RM7.9 million in Telang Usan and RM6.6 million in Mulu,” he said.

Uggah, who is the Infrastructure and Port Development Minister, said Sarawak was fortunate to be led by a Premier who was forward-looking, energetic and capable of strengthening state revenue.

He said Sarawak’s revenue increased from RM6.7 billion in 2017 to RM14.2 billion in 2024, enabling the government to implement major development programmes.

“We are now building 17 major bridges across Sarawak valued at RM5.9 billion. When the MMMLL project is included, the number of bridges in this area alone may exceed 30,” he said.

He added that Sarawak’s strong financial position continued to support key state initiatives, including administrative and infrastructure reforms.
